In Great Tank War, you choose one of 5 unlockable and historically accurate tanks to start out the game. Your goal is to destroy the enemy military forces and avoid getting hit by missiles and airstrikes. Enemy infantry and artillery shoot at you from the ground, and enemy aircraft occasionally bombard your tank with 5 or 6 missiles. In some levels, you simply have to survive for a certain amount of time, whereas in others, you have to destroy all of the enemy forces within a time limit. Some soldiers drop boosts when destroyed that can make your tank invincible for a short amount of time. Nate Games did an amazing job creating controls for Great Tank War. The left stick is used for movement, and the right stick is used for shooting missiles and bullets. After collecting a certain amount of boosts, the star button on the top left of the screen changes colors, and you can tap it to make your tank invincible to damage for an amount of time. After each level, you earn gold for destroying all of your enemies, which can be used to purchase equipment for your tank and to unlock new tanks. The levels in Great Tank War are really fun and the weapon upgrades add variation to the game.

Great Tank War has appealing war-style graphics in most of the game, including the menus and loading screens. There are several maps that the battles in Great Tank War take place on, from desert to tundra. Each of the maps are constructed very well and look beautiful yet realistic. There are also some nice tank sound effects for shooting and moving in the game. The airstrikes and missiles look especially cool, as they have great animation effects. Nate Games makes Great Tank War historically accurate, with appropriate graphics, tanks, and equipment that all contribute to the depth of this game.

The only thing that is missing from Great Tank War is a mini map to show where the enemies are. The maps are pretty big, and it can be frustrating to find the last soldier and where the enemies are advancing at the beginning of the game. A map in the bottom middle of the screen would make the game much better. Also, it is really easy to die in a lot of the levels. When playing, we died several times on level 3, and the game can get really difficult, even in the earlier levels.

Weapon upgrades, different tanks, and boosts give Great Tank War a lot of replay value. Nate Games does a fantastic job in revolutionizing the dual-stick shooter genre by creating a realistic and fun experience. This 5-Dimple shellshocker, currently on sale for $0.99 (regular for $3.99), is definitely worth a shot.
