TwentyFour: Mindboggling Never Was So Addictive
Review Score:

TwentyFour! by Lucid Logic is a new app that helps to keep that gray matter from turning into mush.  As with all good apps, the idea is simple. From four numbers on the screen you need to add, subtract, divide or multiply to end up leaving just 24.  That’s the simple bit over with, because this app isn’t an easy one just for the kids. Add to that the fact that you’re timed on each puzzle and your can really get the nerves tingling as your trying desperately to solve the problem.

TwentyFour Pros:
  • So many puzzles to keep you going for ages
  • Easy interface, pick up and play
  • Highly polished, lots of options for a math app
  • Multiplayer
TwentyFour Cons:
  • Err, not much fun if you’re no good at math, but then don’t buy it!

When you start up for the first time, the app will take you through a quick tutorial that takes you through the basic steps, but the idea is so easy that you really won’t need it at all. Nice to see that they’re thinking of all eventualities though at Lucid Logic, and that is evident throughout TwentyFour! as it really is a polished app.

Within Free Play game mode, you hit with puzzle after puzzle. With 1362 to go at, you’re not going to run out any time soon! If you need a hand at any time, there’s a handy hint or solution button in the bottom menu. You can also play Speed Play where you have a limited amount of time to solve as many puzzles as you can, getting 10 seconds bonus for every puzzle solved and losing 20 seconds for every puzzle passed.

With settings to turn off the sound effects and to limit the numbers used to 1 – 10, statistics to show how well you’re doing and how far you’ve got, Lucid Logic really have thought of everything. Add to that the ability to view the tutorial at any time, there really isn’t much more you could ask for.  But wait, there’s more!

If you’re good, and that would mean you’re better than us at AppSmile, you can post your score on Twitter or on Facebook with Facebook connect.  If boasting about your score on Facebook or Twitter isn’t competition enough, you can host a game to play against others nearby via bluetooth as long as they have a 3Gs or an iPod Touch running 3.0 or later. You can also challenge anyone you know by sending an invite by email from within the app.

Overall TwentyFour! is a really polished app that is quite addictive. The math sounds really simple, but just try it and see if you don’t keep getting annoyed with yourself! At $1.99 it’s a steal and will keep you thinking for some time to come.
