SquarO: Circles Meet Squares In This Perplexing Puzzler
Review Score:

SquarO by Marc Lebel, brings a classic French logic puzzle to the iPhone. With nice graphics, simple controls, and a never-ending number of puzzles, it’s worth a look if you’re searching for a new puzzle game on your iPhone.

SquarO Pros:

  • Gorgeous graphics
  • Well honed gameplay difficulty levels

SquarO Cons:

  • No soundtrack to speak of
  • No global leaderboards or achievements

SquarO is described as a cross between Minesweeper and Sudoku, and is very easy to learn. Each square has a number – this is the number of circles around it that must be filled. Complete all the right circles, and you finish the puzzle. Your time is your score. Pretty simple, huh?  You can also place “negative markers” to remind yourself which circles should NOT be filled in. This is useful but not necessary to beating a puzzle.

There are four difficulty levels. Easy is good for learning the basics, and you’ll graduate to Medium right away. Hard is challenging, and Evil is downright devilish. The differences in difficulty is perfect, letting players of all skill levels enjoy themselves. Each puzzle is automatically generated, so there’s an infinite number of them.

The graphics are gorgeous. We also like that at the same time, there are no gratuitous flourishes. All the elements are distinct and easy on the eyes, and otherwise stay out of your way. There’s no soundtrack to speak of, which lets you focus on the puzzles.

If you’re particularly proud of a score, the app has Facebook integration, letting you post your scores for your friends to match. It’s a nice addition.  Overall, we find SquarO to be a nice little $0.99 puzzler that should fit well in any app library.
