Audio Puzzle, by Dexoris Studios, is a game perfectly suited for the iPod Touch and iPhone devices. This beautifully presented game generates little “jigsaw puzzles” out of segments of songs, challenging you to fit them back together.

What makes it work is that unlike many other music games in the App Store, Audio Puzzle uses music stored on your device. This means that chances are, if the song is on your phone, you should know the song. There’s no getting stumped from being presented with music you’ve never heard of, nor will you ever complain that there’s not enough or not the type of music you’d like -- the selection is up to you. We’ve seen other iPod library based games in the App Store, but none that through together your personal collection in such a stunning way.

There are 3 game modes. Basic is, well, the standard game. Distraction mode throws in pieces from other closely related songs, so you have to distinguish between the right samples. Dexoris says the app can determine which other tracks in your library sound similar. In our review, we found this to be true. Hardcore mode is for those who think they really know their music -- you can listen to each sample only once, and have to put them in order. You get three hearts (lives), and every time you put two mismatched pieces together, you’ll lose one. Oh, and there’s a song timeline on the bottom to let you listen to the original song (but come on, you shouldn’t need it).

Audio Puzzle is a slickly designed $1.99 app, filled with subtle fade effects and well-designed artwork. A game truly for music lovers, you owe it to yourself to pick up this game if you love your music collection.
Audio Puzzle gets our AppSmile 5-Dimple rating:
