Jet Car Stunts, the arcade physics racer from TrueAxis that we recently previewed on AppSmile, has finally hit the app store. We’ve had a chance to play the full version with all difficulty levels intact and can proudly proclaim that this is one of the best iDevice games we’ve ever played.
The difficulty quickly ramps up, even as you move from Just Learning to Easy mode. This is the type of game where trial-and-error is a necessary component to adjusting to the gameplay. While some players may find it quite difficult, the game becomes much easier through repetition and familiarization with the courses. The most important game element involves striking a balance between using jet fuel to lower your track times while conserving enough to make it to the next checkpoint, which replenishes your full supply.
Some users have reported a crash bug brought about by a sound issue on older devices, though playing in silent mode or using headphones appears to limit the instances of this occurring. TrueAxis is aware of this issue and is working to push an update that will fix this problem.
The OpenFeint leaderboards are filling up with some impressive scores, some of which have bested our times by several seconds, encouraging us to keep playing and finding ways to significantly reduce our times. There is no tutorial in the game, but it should not take much effort to learn how to play effectively. There are many gameplay and tutorial videos available online if you find yourself utterly confused. There has been chatter about new levels being released through DLC, as well as a possible level editor, which would just be over the moon for this game.
In all, the 25 platforming levels and 11 time trial levels are a great start for what promises to be an iconic game on this platform. TrueAxis has released Jet Car Stunts for $1.99, an absolute steal for this 5-Dimple standout.
