Wordigo is a unique word puzzle game for sale on the App Store by RiverEdge Game Company. Combining creative word development and a fierce seven minute time limit, Wordigo aims to be the word game players will keep coming back to. Unlike other word building games, Wordigo prescribes where you can create certain words and limits each game with a strict descending seven minute clock. Eight puzzle boards are offered, each designed with horizontal and vertical paths for words. Think of a partial cross-word puzzle with several word paths and empty areas. The goal is to construct words using randomly generated letter tiles. Players can only move on to a new path once the previous path is complete. Scoring is based on clever vowel placement.
Every consonant has a numerical value whereas vowels have no values, but can multiply a consonant’s scoring power. For instance, within the word HEART, the E may contain a 2 with an arrow pointing at the H. If the H has a value of 3, then the E doubles it to a six point value. Vowels effect only consonant values and do not play off each other. Each puzzle has a completion point goal that must be met within the time frame. Once a word path is finished, players must submit it to move to the next. At that point, new tiles are randomly generated to fill the letter rack. If a player determines that they cannot complete the current path because of a previous path’s shared letters, the past word can be removed and recreated. The game ends when the clock runs out or all paths are completed. The eight available boards are unlocked from the get-go so can be selected for gameplay at any time.
Wordigo integrates online multiplayer connectivity with its Daily Puzzle. Players must first sign up for an account with www.highergames.com, which they can do within the app. Online leaderboards are present in the Top 10 tab that showcases that day’s highest scoring players.
Overall, we enjoyed the gameplay experience as it feels like a good fit for the iPhone OS. Wordigo is a super challenging word builder with a clean layout and up front instructions. A high level or replayability is created, not through an extensive selection of boards, but through the randomization of tiles on the letter board. Currently on sale for $0.99, Wordigo is a great choice to round out any puzzler’s collection. We give Wordigo our 5-Dimple rating.
