Toy Bot Mini Missions, a fun new pick-up-and-play from IUGO Mobile Entertainment, has recently hit the app store, giving us another dose of Toy Bot-style excitement. Whether you have 5 minutes or 45 minutes, this game packs enough punch to keep you entertained for the duration.
Toy Bot is back and he’s brought all of his buddies on his newest quest. This time, Toy Bot brings 100 mini missions for you to complete. When we say mini, we mean mini. Many of these missions can be completed in under 10 seconds. Some will take a touch longer. If you can’t figure out the secret to passing the level, some could take significantly longer. Each mission has a par time during which you should be able to reach the exit. After a quick countdown, the timer begins and you must lead Toy Bot (or one of his buddies) to the exit as quickly as possible. The first few levels are no challenge whatsoever, leading you to believe that this game will be a piece of cake. But you haven’t seen anything yet. Many of the puzzles require you to avoid lasers, rearrange objects, launch projectiles in coordination with your actions, and more. As you progress through the game, you unlock characters and new zones. Each zone has 10 levels which can be played in any order. After completing most of the levels in each zone, a new character will be unlocked. The next zone will be unlocked only after you have completed all 10 levels in the current zone. While some levels were quite easy and super fast, others left us scratching our heads for several minutes before discovering a solution. Actually achieving that solution sometimes took even longer.
The graphical quality and sound are on par with all other installments of the Toy Bot series. The same polish and appeal shows through just as strongly in Mini Missions. Controls are simple, too. There are buttons for left and right movements, but no jump button. Action buttons may appear along the right side of the screen, depending on the level. Once you figure out what the button does, you must figure out when and how to use it to help you reach the exit. Gameplay is smooth and as fun as it ever was.
While our initial impression was that the game was a tad on the “too easy” side, those fears were diminished as we started unlocking new zones and encountering more difficult puzzles. Regardless, the fun factor was always very high. Replay value, on the other hand, isn’t as strong as one might hope. Once you’ve figured out how to beat the levels, that surprise and challenge no longer exists. We felt that IUGOME, while remaining consistent with initial pricing for other games in the Toy Bot series, may have priced Mini Missions a bit higher than necessary at $3.99. As it only took about 20 minutes to cruise through the first quarter of the game, finishing it in its entirety shouldn’t take too much more time. Given its quick nature and lack of replay value, a price point of $1.99 may have been a bit more enticing to fans. Either way, Toy Bot Mini Missions turned out to be a lot of fun and is a solid 4-Dimple game that will appeal to a wide spectrum of gamers.
