Paper Toss: World Tour, the follow-up to the extremely popular free version of Paper Toss, has been released in the app store by Backflip Studios, makers of Ragdoll Blaster. Paper Toss: World Tour improves upon its predecessor by taking the can and crumpled paper international, allowing you to make baskets across the globe.
The premise could not be simpler, yet the enjoyment factor and replay value remain sky high. You have crumpled up balls of paper and a can a certain distance away. By swiping on screen, you flick a ball of paper toward the can in the hope of making a basket. Of course, you’ll have to account for wind, indicated by an arrow and number on screen. The direction of your flick is the important factor, as the speed of the flick does not appear to impact the shot in any way. Make at least three in a row to unlock the next international city. Extend the streak to set a new high score. As you progress from city to city, the basket gets farther away, which really ramps up the difficulty.
Graphically, the game looks simple, yet has a pleasant appeal. Each city has a distinct background that represents unique values and sights from that area. You’ll travel to Japan, Egypt, Germany, Brazil, Indonesia, India, Russia, and the USA. Sounds are great. Each city has its own distinct music that also represents the city in some way. The can noises serve to enliven gameplay. It’s reinforcing to hear that clunk and know that you just nailed the shot. Controls utilize simple swipes. Nothing to it. We found the game to be enjoyably difficult, as we could usually rip off 3 to 5 shots in a row, but hitting a double digit streak really took some skill. It’s deceptive, but in a good way.
Paper Toss: World Tour is a great time waster, the type of game you pick up for 2 minutes and play for half an hour. The “just one more try” factor is huge in a game like this, though it may get repetitive for some after a while. Replay value is great for those people who are never satisfied with what they’ve got and have to chase that slightly greater goal. Global leaderboards also provide plenty of motivation to improve your scores. For $0.99, it’s certainly worth picking up if you have any interest. Paper Toss: World Tour receives our 5-Dimple approval.
