Do you remember the glory days of gaming, when every shopping mall had it’s very own video arcade and you’d beg your parents for quarters or tokens. Well those says may be gone, but thanks to companies like Bandai Namco you can carry those old classics with you everywhere in your pocket.

Bandai Namco presents us with Galaga Remix, with is actually a two game in one app (pretty sweet) . The first game is actually the entitled Galaga Remix, a redrawn and animated version of the old Galaga with new fashionable ship upgrades and end of level bosses which add a new degree of difficulty and interest. The second game is Galaga Classic -- pretty standard.  We’ll consider this a bonus to the featured and entitled Galaga Remix which we will be focusing the review on.

First the positives.  Animation is very clean and colorful; appealing to the eyes in every way. We always love a game that offers the ability to pick from several different upgrades. In Galaga Remix you can just that, Not surprizingly, Remix is built on the same premise as the original -- which works. After all, it’s Galaga; a huge classic. With all the positives about this game, it is unfortunate that a few negatives come along for the ride (or flight). Having the title Remix you might think Galaga for iPhone should include a hip upbeat soundtrack that you could get down with while you blast away alien bugs.  Yet, this is not the case with this Remix, which sticks pretty close to the old Galaga tunes -- “yawn”. There are three methods of movement for Galaga Remix: buttons, accelerometer, and slider. Of these three, we found the button function works best. It the most like the original arcade style.  Hopefully we’ll see an update where buttons are larger and less cramped.

Despite these slight setbacks (including the $5.99 price tag), Galaga soars to earn an AppSmile 4-dimple seal of approval!
