PathPix, by Kris Pixton, is a harmonious blend of drawing, connect the dots, and find the hidden picture. With dead simple rules and fluid controls, PathPix will keep you entertained for hours as you create pictures by creating paths between the appropriate endpoints.
PathPix packs 144 terrific puzzles of steadily increasing size and difficulty. All puzzles are unlocked from the get-go, so if you get stuck on any one puzzle, it won’t render the game unplayable. Each puzzle contains a grid containing blank squares and various colored dots, with each dot containing a number. Your task is to draw paths connecting dots with the same number and color. The number on the dots indicates the number of grid squares that must be contained within the path. Two 4’s would include 2 grid squares between the 2 endpoints, two 9’s would contain 7 grid squares in between, and so on. The color of the dots will impact the eventual picture that is revealed by the completed puzzle. Once completed, each square fills in completely with the path colors to reveal a pixilated image and a quotation that corresponds to the revealed image.
If you make a mistake, simply trace your finger backward along the path to undo, or double-tap to clear the entire path. A reset button sits in the lower left corner in the event that you need to clear the board entirely. Many puzzles are too large to see all at once, so the zoom buttons come in handy. Swipe controls allow you to quickly and smoothly access unseen parts of the puzzle. You can also feel free to bounce around from puzzle to puzzle, as the game automatically saves your progress.
Graphics are simple and clean. There is no sound. Touch controls are very intuitive and work well. PathPix offers a wonderfully addictive gaming experience. Puzzles are not overly difficult. While the game will likely take hours upon hours to complete, it feels as though the 144 puzzles will be completed before we tire of playing the game. Hopefully, Kris Pixton will be updating the game with more puzzles in the near future. For $1.99, PathPix is easily worth purchasing. Great controls, clever puzzles, and addictive fun make this a 5-Dimple hidden gem.
