Skyworks Interactive has been releasing game after game into the App Store recently.  And with each subsequent title they prove that they’re the team to beat in the Sport genre.

Today we’re taking a look at World Cup Air Hockey.  Similar to its, sister game World Cup Ping Pong in many respects, World Cup Air Hockey continues the franchise with responsive finger dragging action.

Play modes abound -- Tournament, Head to Head, and Practice mode.  They’re all there.  Tournament mode shows why the game has “World Cup” in its name. Eight Countries are represented and the game begins with choosing one to your liking. Be the first to shoot seven pucks in the opposing team’s goal to win each set. While battling your way through the Quarter and Semi Finals, a counter team is also filtering through the ranks.  That’s the team you will contend with if you make it to the Finals. Practice mode is identical, less the match-ranking element.  Have a friend with you? Head to Head throws players into a finger war at opposite ends of the screen.  Make sure you have a stable surface for this folks.

While the existing game play modes are exceptional, AppSmile would like to see a wifi network mode that pits users against each other with separate iPhones.

We’ve all seen numerous top-down air hockey games in the App Store for months now.  But Skyworks shows the world that 3D perspective views works with air hockey.  And in World Cup Air Hockey it works well!  They have also thrown in three soundtracks to boot!  Control sensitivity, Music, and Sound FX options are accessible through the Information button to the top right of every screen.  As with the other games in the Skyworks arsenal, this game delivers beautifully realistic visuals, a fantastic user interface, and smart controls.
