While browsing the App Store you may have noticed the abundance of crap apps that aren’t worth a dime, let alone $0.99. At times this elbow-to-elbow environment can make it a chore to find the real jewels that are out there.
Thankfully, Apple has made the whole experience a tad better by previewing an application’s icon next to its listing designation. We’ve found this to speed up the perusing process by allowing our eyes to selectively sort out the duds from the studs.
Apparently, developers are recognizing an icon’s “first impression” potential and have responded with polished designs – hoping to woo users to inquire further. Recently, a few have been adding “Sale” banners and the like. However, we still see tons of apps with icons that look inspired by a 1st-grader’s refrigerator hangings.
SO, the question in this week’s AppSmile Poll is: Does an app’s icon influence your App Store purchase?
