Raise your hand if you were awestruck by the climactic scene from 1977’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind where man and alien conduct an orchestrated masterpiece of communication through lights and sound? Wow. Yes wow to CandyCane Apps (makers of Fuzzle) for bringing that scene back to our mind with their new title Melodica.
Essentially a music composition app based on the Tenori-on idea (wikipedia), Melodica will have you inventing new melodies for hours. Simply touch the gridded screen to select notes that will be played in a looped sequence. Tap fast enough to change the melody each sequence and you’ve got a full fledged music game on your hands.
CandyCane has done a superb job of keeping it simple and just getting you into the music fast. We do wish that headphones weren’t required (updated: they are not required, just recommended) but we have been informed that version 1.1 will bring saving/loading capabilities to Melodica.
Looks like AppSmile will be busy for hours here. We’ve already made one video below and we should have more on the way. Oh and you can reminisce about the Close Encounters scene via YouTube.
Melodica gets our AppSmile 5-Dimple rating:
