iPhone Game Reviews: GudeBalls

If you can get past the wacky name, you might just enjoy spending a little time with GudeBalls. Turns out “gude” is the Brazilian Portuguese word for “marble” and is phonetically pronounced “Good”. And that’s how AppSmile would describe the game: Good – not Great. To advance through the game, users need to guide free rolling balls onto plates. Rotate the plates to collect balls of the same color. This makes the plate explode. Balls can also be transferred between plates by touching green arrows present on the connecting rails. Once all plates are exploded, the level is complete.

While we liked the realistic graphics and style, there were a number of features we want improved. First of all, the plates are on the small side, so rotating them is difficult at times. The difficulty should be guiding the balls, not interacting with the game. Moreover, it seems the guys over at gudeballs.com forgot to include a way to return to the Main Menu once game play ensues. This traps players in the game listening to one repeating Christmas song. They could have at least let iTunes play in the background while we contemplate exiting the game.

With all that being said, GudeBalls does give an interesting puzzle game experience for the iPhone.
