Review: Days Of Thunder for iPhone OS

Days of Thunder was released by Freeverse Software on Feb 5th, 2009.

Based loosely on the Paramount movie, you play as a driver working your way
through the NASCAR circuit.

The goal is to defeat your opponents by rubbing them and forcing them off the
road.

As you progress through multiple tracks, more car are unlocked and become available
to you.

Days of Thunder comes with it’s own soundtrack too, although we could do with
out. Right from the start of the game it is understood that this was developed
for the NASCAR fan in mind. If you’re not a NASCAR fan, stay away!

Here’s what we like:

  • Some cool graphics when opponants explode.

Here’s what AppSmile could do without:

  • Repetative tracks
  • Country Rock soundtrack (but hey thats just us!)
  • No option to listen to iPod music in the background instead of built-in
    music
  • Cheap looking artwork on story boards
  • We could do without the storyboards in general -- although this does break
    up the monotonous tracks
  • Long load times

It seems like Freeverse focused more on explosions and country rockin’ than
on actual game quality here.

But if you’re looking for a game that feels like it could have been released
on the original movie release date -- this may be for you.

Otherwise, we would avoid this one.

Days of Thunder receives our AppSmile 2-Dimple rating.
